Sylvester Shchedrin, growing up in a family of artists, decided to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors and devote his life to painting. The most realistic transfer of natural motifs, embodying the feelings and impression of the author from the spectacle, became the main task of Sylvester Shchedrin. A visit to Naples helped the artist feel the beauty of this land and breathed inspiration into it.
The image is painted in diffused light, so all the elements of nature seem to be shrouded in air and are located even closer to a person. Unity and harmony with nature is conveyed through the soft flow of illumination of the picture. The high rocky shore on the right side of the picture has a lot of living quarters, so it creates the feeling of a cozy closed box on the shores of the beautiful sea.
Trees grow right on the cliff, from the ground itself, climbing to the top of the cliff higher and higher, as if trying to devour it. Massive dark rock creates a stunning contrast with a soft sky, made in light blue light. The openwork surface of the water complements the composition and its color, containing in addition to the traditional blue color a shade of ocher and a sea wave. In the far part of the composition you can see a large rocky shore, made in delicate shades of blue and green, so, with the help of color, the location of the island becomes obvious.
On the sandy shore you can see a group of people enthusiastically leading the conversation. Men's clothing is red, which serves as a contrast to the image, thereby enriching its color palette. In the water you can distinguish the figures of two fishermen with fishing rods, standing with their backs to the viewer. A ship with a group of passengers spreading the sails of the gear is also noteworthy. Near the rocky shore you can see the darkened silhouette of the boat, and another ship is shown in the far part of the canvas, sailing into the distance towards new shores.
