Description of the painting Isaac Levitan "Rye"


Russian artist who was born in Lithuania in a Jewish family. All this is about Isaac Levitan, the genius of Russian landscape painting. It was he who created the so-called genre of "mood landscape".

Among his fellow painters who painted landscapes, Levitan managed to stand out - he managed to create very emotional images of nature. His paintings were created with amazing authenticity. For his entire creative life, Levitan has created more than a thousand sketches and paintings.

Levitan had famous teachers - Vasily Perov, Alexei Savrasov. Thanks to his talent, desire and perseverance, after the death of his mother Levitan, he is allowed to study at an art school for free. For the first time, the artist's gift was officially recognized in 1880, at a school exhibition of paintings. His painting was acquired by none other than the famous collector P. M. Tretyakov for his gallery. Since that time, his talent has flourished. Levitan does not stop and gives out a masterpiece after a masterpiece.

The painting "Rye" shows us the bank of the river, on which rye is earning on one side (hence the name of the picture), and on the other bank we can see a small temple or church. Despite the fact that the buildings are painted with wide fuzzy strokes, we can distinguish what exactly the artist wanted to depict. Using the muffled colors, Levitan managed to show us the time of year, to convey the emotionality of the landscape.

Oil painting on canvas. Size 36x53 centimeters. It is in the collection, which belongs to the National Museum of Art in Riga, Latvia.
