Description of the painting by Correggio "Danae"

There are a great many jokes about the great Italian artist, and where is the truth in them, where is the lie, where is the truth, where is the fiction, where is the fantasy, where is the reality, today it is already difficult to make out.

Some say that the painter did not study anywhere, that he simply wanted to write masterpieces - and began to write them; others contradict, claiming that Correggio learned to create, and studied very intently and corrosively with recognized masters. Some claim that the artist was a beggar, that he was paid a penny for his work, while others claim that he came from aristocrats, was very rich and versatile.

And many other disputes revolve around the artist, but one fact remains unshakably true: the Italian is a true genius and a master of chiaroscuro, which immerses the viewer first in the center of the plot, and only then allows him to rest on third-party objects and images.

When Correggio writes a female body in a naked form, he silently praises, no, literally glorifies beauty, grace, charm, charm, attractiveness, but what is there - the sexuality of women. We can clearly hear these praises in Danae.

The ancient Greek myth of the divine beauty of the girl who fell in love with Zeus himself is known to many, and it makes no sense to retell it. The viewer who knows the story understands that the winged Cupid is preparing the beauty for the arrival of Zeus, the kids at the bed with their tiny inept handles display something on the plate, most likely the name "Danae".

The small landscape outside the window and the sunset, the beauty of which is enveloped in the girl’s room, the calmness of colors is conveyed by the divine light that is about to appear with the advent of the main god and will illuminate Danube. The delicate body of the latter and the whiteness of the sheets indicate that the beauty will soon fly away into heaven.

This work of art was donated to Charles V for coronation. Today, Danae is located in the Roman Gallery of Borghese.
