The French impressionist Pierre Renoir became famous as a master of secular portraiture. Wealthy Parisians fell in love with the painter for his sentimental paintings. The artist depicted colorful, bright, joyful landscapes and faces. In 1896, his family captured the oil on canvas with Renoir.
“Renoir Family” includes 5 people in the picture. In the very center we see the wife of the French painter - Alina Sharigo. A young lady with a healthy glow is dressed in a long skirt and a magnificent blouse, on her head is a beautiful voluminous hat. By the hand of a woman hugs their eldest son - Pierre. A full-bodied boy dressed in a nautical-style suit. He looks thoughtfully away.
The artist’s middle son, Jean, turned his back on the right. He holds a multi-colored ball in his hand, straightens his long hair with his second hand. It may seem a strange dress on a boy and a similar hairstyle. But in those days in France it was commonplace. It was customary to even braid bows in boys' hair.
The smallest character in the picture is the son of Renoir Claude. The red-haired chubby child is dressed in all white: boots, a dress and a bonnet. Next to him, it’s easy to guess, the nanny of Renoir - Gabriella. She was also the cousin of the painter's wife. A girl in a snow-white apron and with a neat haircut. The author included her in the portrait as a very important person for the family. He also often painted Gabriella in other paintings, since she served as a model for Renoir.
The family idyll in the picture gives the impression of complete well-being. The figures are located on a background of dense green spaces. Fragments of city buildings are included in the field of view.
Spring unhurried walk in the bosom of nature is an excellent motive for the canvas of the impressionist. The artist caught the moment when his family peacefully enjoys leisure.
The painting is now in the USA, at the Barnes Foundation Museum.
